Case Study 2:
Polystar Plastics (Southampton)
Limited

(Relates to Electrical Control Systems)

The chief engineer of Polystar, pacing with frustration, explained the downtime and lost production caused by the DC drives on one of his nip/rewind extruder control systems…

Small wonder reliability had become an issue; this particular system was 20 years old.

Being aware of the need to retain the existing footprint we designed a new control system using modern DC drives. And, as part of the design we proposed the addition of a new remote control and monitoring station. This would allow control and monitoring to be carried out without a constant staff presence on the shop floor, thus enabling more effective deployment of personnel.

Within two days the new system was retro-fitted and commissioned. It continues to run with 100% reliability and offers higher levels of control. And now, instead of lost production time Polystar have, through our control system, achieved higher production speeds!
